Anastasia Krupnik
From the book by Lois Lowry. Adapted by Meryl Friedman. Directed by James Scott
"Anastasia Krupnik is opinionated, sassy and funny. Really funny. This 10-year-old has an offbeat take on life that is both amusing and refreshing. And what makes Anastasia entertaining is how she keeps the audience privy to all the angst a 10-year-old can muster -- and it's plenty.
"Anastasia keeps a list of the things she loves -- the little pink wart on her finger -- and the things she hates -- her teacher -- in her zealously guarded green notebook. At one point she is ridiculed by her teacher because her poetry assignment doesn't rhyme [she gets an F]... When her dad reads the poem he exclaims: 'This is an F -- for fabulous!' Anastasia turns to the audience, grinning from ear to ear, and announces with pride, 'The year I was 10, I wrote a fabulous poem.'" (The Daily News) Introducing Ruby Pardy as Anastasia and Hester McDonald as her best friend, Jennifer. Suitable for children 6-14. CAST: Ruby Pardy, Hester McDonald, James Scott, Monica Engel and Leon Anderson. 20-23 April 2022 at the Perform Australia THeatre, 11 Whyalla St, Fyshwick An Amateur Production By Arrangement With Origin Theatrical, On behalf Of Dramatic Publishing Company. |
According to Mark
Few people nowadays have ever heard the full story of the life of Jesus, and know very little about his biography. Here, in just an hour-and-a-half, you can hear the blow-by-blow account of the extraordinary life which changed the world as we know it.
Some 2000 years ago, Jesus emerges as an unknown from the town of Nazareth, in the midst of a world under Roman occupation. Before long, this man begins to teach at religious venues. Crowds flock to hear him speak. The word on the street is that people are being healed from every kind of sickness and disease. Who is this man, and what's it all about? Is he a fraud? Or is there something in it? James Scott presents a dramatized recitation of the Gospel According To St Mark live on stage at the Perform Australia Theatre (April 2-4, 2021). |

The Good Doctor
By Anton Chekhov & Neil Simon
Directed by James Scott
Directed by James Scott
Honest Puck and Limbo Theatre are pleased to present the Neil Simon classic, The Good Doctor.
Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor is a brilliant adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s short stories for the stage. We are invited into the home of an unnamed writer (clearly Chekhov himself), suffering from a case of writer’s block. As he speaks in order to rid himself of his affliction, he tells a series of stories examining the humour and the heart of humanity. A cast of memorable characters from an acting troupe play out the stories as each scene is introduced. They deliver a slice of life of Chekhov’s characters, drawing us into their worlds for a short time before the writer whisks us on to the next one. The Good Doctor places a lens on the absurd, outlandish, ludicrous, poignant and odd frailties of humans and enables us to laugh at ourselves. From its beginnings as stories written in Russia at the end of the 19th century, to being brought to life by an American playwright, and now performed in Australia, The Good Doctor is truly a night celebrating universal experiences. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
Set in the remote town of Crythin Gifford, in the north east of England, Arthur Kipps arrives to settle the estate of a Mrs Alice Drablow of Eel Marsh House. He is bewildered by the refusal of the locals to have anything to do with him. As he sorts through Mrs Drablow's papers, he discovers a history that no-one wants to talk about. What has Mrs Drablow done, and who is the mysterious, ethereal Woman in Black who haunts her house? Mistakes Were Made
By Craig Wright
Directed by Brendan Kelly Felix Artifex, a New York theatre producer has discovered a play he believes will redeem his career, resuscitate his marriage, and revitalise his life. He even has a the world's biggest movie star - Johnny Blesdoe - interested in playing the lead. But Johnny wants a few alterations to the script, and the author is not convinced of the proposed changes. In one chaotic afternoon, Felix has to convince the actor, the writer, their agents, and the theatre owner that Mistakes Were Made - an epic play about the French Revolution - will be the success that they all long for. Journey with Felix into the turbulent, and often riotous depths of Broadway negotiations, in this "exquisite piece of comic writing" (The New Yorker). Directed by Brendan Kelly, starring James Scott, Tijana Kovac, and puppeteer Jenny Ng. "Wright's play is a doozy—a deceptively deep, fiendishly mapped look at warped priorities, artistic compromise and the hunger for success, with show biz (what else?) as the animating fixation…[an] ever-escalating farce of warped thinking, deranged egos and the sweaty, megalomaniacal quest for the spotlight…" —Chicago Sun-Times. |

Accidental Death of An Anarchist
Honest Puck was pleased to present a co-production with Limbo Theatre -Accidental Death of An Anarchist by Dario Fo.
It might not seem like it has its roots in comedy, but Accidental Death Of An Anarchist is a satirical work based on a 1969 incident in Milan, in which a suspected anarchist railway worker accused of terrorist attacks fell to his death from a fourth-story window during a police interrogation. His death was deemed suicide - but the subsequent police report held blatant contradictions. What unfolds is a farcical tale of bureaucratic bungling with political punch, as 'the maniac', a borderline lunatic who loves theatre, carries out a variety of impersonations in an attempt to infiltrate the police headquarters to find out exactly what's going on... By Arrangement with Origin Theatrical on behalf of Samuel French Ltd Accidental Death Of An Anarchist is Limbo Theatre's debut work. Performances: 7.30pm on August 1, 2, 3 & 4, 2018 Venue: CADA Theatre, 11 Whyalla St, Fyshwick ACT |

Directed by James Scott
It's A Wonderful Life is the story of George Bailey, a resident of small-town America, whose attempts at escape from a common life are constantly thwarted. Since childhood he dreamed of leaving town to explore the world and find fame and fortune - but along the way, he made sacrifices for others which meant his hopes were never fulfilled. Then comes the day when he's willing to throw it all in... and, through a twist of fate and a little divine intervention, he comes to realise how much he really has, right where he is.
This story is as wonderful as it sounds, and Honest Puck is pleased to present it as a live radio play from the 1940s - yes, with scripts in hand, live sound effects, character voices and genuine laughs - the works! Directed by James Scott and featuring Katherine Berry, Monica Engel, Colin Giles, and Michael Ubrihien, and starring Hayden Splitt as 'George Bailey', this play offers a new theatrical experience for those who've never heard (and seen!) radio quite like this. Performance Dates: Thursday, 14 December - 23 December, 2018 |
